On December 8, 2023, at Pullman Hanoi Hotel, Ton Nam Kim was honored to receive the Product of the Year award for 2023 for its ZINMAG® product, presented by Investment Newspaper in collaboration with Viet Research.

The “Product of the Year – Innovative, Effective Products, and Services of 2023” program conducted nationwide research, and surveys to seek, and honor outstanding products, and services known for innovation, and modernization within each industry. It aimed to meet high standards in customer demand, and experience, based on two main criteria: (1) Value added through innovation, creativity, and modernization (Innovation Premium – IP Index), and (2) Reputation, and business effectiveness of the product, and service.

The ZINMAG® product – a magnesium alloy-coated steel – is the result of over 4 years of serious investment with research, and development costs exceeding $10 million USD by Ton Nam Kim. This high-quality product provides breakthrough solutions in surface corrosion protection, and cutting – edge metal protection, usable even in the harshest environments such as coastal areas, livestock farming, and chemical settings, with a warranty period of over 50 years.

In addition to aluminum – zinc compounds, ZINMAG® integrates magnesium, and special rare earth elements as catalysts to maximize the protective features of the alloy. Thus, when oxidation occurs, these compounds effectively form protective barrier layers on the steel substrate, exceeding corrosion resistance expectations. Particularly on cut edges, screw holes, and scratches, ZINMAG® enhances durability over time, reducing maintenance, and upkeep costs while extending the lifespan of structures. Ton Nam Kim has successfully developed the technology for producing ZINMAG® steel sheets – a high-corrosion-resistant alloy coated steel manufactured in Vietnam. In October 2023, the company delivered its first commercial shipments to the markets of Australia and Europe.

In the face of a challenging economic conditions, Ton Nam Kim made a breakthrough by successfully exporting a batch of premium Zinmag® coated steel to Australia and Europe – markets with stringent standards for galvanized steel.

In line with global trends in green steel production technology, and efforts to reduce global CO2 emissions, Ton Nam Kim has emerged as a pioneering Vietnamese enterprise successfully developing technology for producing alloy-coated steel sheets. These sheets combine zinc-aluminum alloy with magnesium and special rare earth elements. As a result, the product offers durability over five times that of traditional alloy-coated steel. Ton Nam Kim can be considered the first Vietnamese company to lead in the development of sustainable, and environmentally friendly coating technologies.

Mr. Le Minh Hai, R&D Director at Ton Nam Kim, shared, “ ZINMAG® steel sheets exhibit numerous superior characteristics, such as high corrosion resistance even in harsh environments like marine areas, livestock farming, and chemical environments. Furthermore, with a robust composition of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, over time, they form a crystalline layer known as Simonkolleite (SKT), which enhances corrosion protection on metal surfaces and edges. With the ZINMAG® product line, Ton Nam Kim confidently asserts Vietnam’s competitive position in the international coated steel market.”

Zinmag® steel is a magnesium alloy coated steel product researched, and manufactured by Ton Nam Kim in Vietnam.

Zinmag® steel is suitable for structural use, covering livestock facilities, silos, and feed systems on farms, as well as frames and supports for solar energy farms, coastal structures, high-speed barrier rails, and even household appliances like refrigerators, and freezers.

The Zinmag® product line is the result of Ton Nam Kim serious investment in R&D activities over the past four years, totaling more than 10 million USD, according to Ton Nam Kim representatives.
